Island Tug and
Barge Ltd. of Vancouver, British Columbia has a long history of serving coastal
communities up and down the west coast. With expertise in general and
specialized cargoes such as bulk fuel delivery, ITB is known for a high level
of service and professionalism.
Island Tug and Barge is B.C.'s only
domestic supplier of submarine laying services. It is also the largest supplier
of bulk fuel products to Vancouver Island.

Island Tug and Barge's commitment to safety is shown by
their dedication to follow the ISM Code. The ISM Code is a safety
management program established by the International Maritime Organization. It
is required by all shipping where vessels exceed 500 gross tons. The Code is
not required by law for ITB operations, however, they have taken it on because
it sets a high standard for seamanship and management practices that puts ITB
in line with the best practices of the sea-going industry.
The code
requires that a series of management practices be in place that
enable:
- A safe working environment
- The prevention of pollution
- Maintenance of a seaworthy vessel
- Safe sea-going practices
- Control of operation critical information
